Our team embodies the very definition of a designer.

de·sign·er

/dəˈzīnər/

noun

  1. a person who plans the form, look, or workings of something before its being made or built, typically by drawing it in detail.

Designers have an eye for grids and patterns, an understanding of layout, plot drawings and plans, good communication and listening skills, and spatial design skills as they relate to dimension and structure. Like all artists, furniture designers must possess a keen sense of aesthetic beauty and a good eye for detail. “How to become a furniture designer.” www.theartcareerproject.com N.D.

Joseph Sadony - Principal and Master of All

School: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design from Kendall College of Art & Design

Personal Furniture Style: I really love Arts & Crafts style for its commitment to the craftsman and the use of joinery as ornamentation. I also love Mid Century Modern for it’s unique approach to design.

Hobbies: Everything outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, fishing, paddle boarding, kite boarding, surfing, hockey

Jamie Basta-Sadony - Head of Quietly Judging

School: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Kendall College of Art & Design

Personal Furniture Style: I am a little all over the place on this, in a fantasy world, if I had a place to fill with things, it would probably lean a little deco, Hollywood regency with a touch of certain choice mid-century pieces…if that makes any sense at all! But in the real world, I would describe it as mid-century eclectic, which is mostly made up of antique pieces of furniture that have taken lots of digging, and luck to find! Basically, my personal furniture/décor style is whatever calls out my name, whatever piece I pass in a shop that I just can’t leave without. If I don’t love it, it won’t work.

Hobbies: Traveling, hiking, dog time, paddle boarding, pickle ball, exploring, perusing Zillow more often than I should!

School: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design from Kendall College of Art and Design

Master of Arts in Education and Adult Training from the University of Phoenix

Personal Furniture Style: For me it is all about the details. I get excited when I see a great finish, beautiful woods and veneers, a well-done carving, molding combinations, interesting hardware and even construction methods. I suppose that is why I favor furniture styles of the 18th century. The design characteristics of this era in my opinion are the true “influencers” of today’s furniture designs.

Hobbies: Refurbishing furniture, watercolors, sports especially horseback riding, trap shooting, golfing and biking

Adam Podboy - The OG (Original) Intern

School: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design from Kendall College of Art and Design

Personal Furniture Style: I like furniture in contemporary Japanese style as well as Scandinavian design because of their attention to small details and showcasing of natural materials. I also really like the sort of sculptural or conceptual furniture that leans more to the furniture-as-art side of things.

Hobbies: I enjoy learning about virtually anything and everything, so I like to read/listen to books, listen to podcasts, and read Wikipedia articles. I also like to go to Lake Michigan and have been getting into camping/backpacking more in the last couple of years.
